Chester, WV (August 26, 2014) The Harv reaches its 14th year of operation at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort in August and the entertainment center has hosted its share of national entertainers since opening its doors in 2000.
“The Harv is an entertainment hub in the tri-state area,” general manager Chris Kern said. “In 2013, we saw over 35,000 guests walk through its doors to be entertained by numerous first class shows.”
The highly anticipated concert season runs from April to November each year and draws large audiences due to its versatile line up. Rock, Country, R&B, Comedy and sporting events are all hosted within the confines of the Harv.
The 2014 schedule has featured powerhouse entertainers, such as: Aaron Lewis, Bret Michaels, Kenny Rodgers, Keith Sweat, Josh Turner, comedian Bill Engvall, , Kool & the Gang, Veterans of SNL: Rob Schneider, Jon Lovitz and Tim Meadows, Jamey Johnson and professional boxing.
Upcoming shows include Gladys Knight (Sep 13), Travis Tritt (Sep 27), Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo (Oct 11) and Loretta Lynn (Nov 8).
In 2000, this steel-framed structure was built over the course of 80 days on top of a golf course. Aaron Glover, who served on the crew of contractors and employees that built the Harv has fond memories of opening day. “We had to hold off opening the doors so the painters could finish,” he said with a laugh. “The paint was drying as we welcomed our first patrons into the facility.”
The entertainment center, with its “too small to be big, too big to be small” stature took to Vegas-inspired entertainment, booking legends like Paul Anka, Julio Iglesias, Frank Sinatra Jr and Wayne Newton. As the venue evolved and gained popularity to a more-diverse audience, the star-studded list expanded to include such acts as Ted Nugent and Cheaptrick, to name a few.
Known for more than just live concerts, this multi-purpose facility has been the home to food shows, Irish dance competitions, Lunar New Year’s parties, Cajunfest, various corporate tradeshows, and sporting events such as professional boxing, power lifting competitions and professional bull riding. For many years, it has been the home of the Chester VFD’s Fall Bash. The reputation for having the capacity and experience of handling such a diverse set of events is what makes the Harv an ideal booking venue.
“Whatever you could possibly list… If you can think of it, chances are we have hosted it at the Harv,” Glover said.
“The pride in this facility is what keeps us growing strong,” he said. “Everyone who has had the pleasure of working here can honestly say that the Harv is as much a part of us as we are a part of the Harv.”
